Eyes of the Night: Witchcraft among a Senegalese people
William S. Simmons
This book is based upon fieldwork among the Badyaranke of the
village of Tonghia in Senegal. To the people of Tonghia, who so
graciously looked after me during those many months, I owe my
greatest debt.
Witchcraft was not an easy subject to explore, and I would have
learned very little had it not been for my principal research
assistant, Kamara Abdullae Emile. Since witchcraft was a dark
subject to the Badyaranke, a number of details and names in the
case histories have been changed.
